Banned authors and books in elementary schools.
In an eighth grade classroom in Burlingham the book Kaffir Boy was banned from the curriculum. A parent was not pleased with the choice of reading and the book was immediately pulled. This raised the question of "Is it right to be pulling books that bring educational purposes. At what age is it okay to be reading these books. Author of Kaffir Boy came to the school five weeks later to talk about the banning of his book. Along with this book is many other books that ar being challenged in classrooms. According the San Fransico articla the top 10 challenged nooks of 08 are...
- and tango makes three
- the chocolate war
- olive's ocean
- the golden compass
- the adventures of huckleberry finn
- the color purple

Developmentally appropriate practices (DAP)
The idea of developmentally appropriate practices is to provide an environment that offers content, materials, activities, and methodologies that apply to the child's level of development. The three areas of appropriateness according to circleofinclusion.org is age appropriateness, individual appropriateness, and cultural and social context appropriateness. Keeping each of these areas in mind of a child's appropriateness will not only help you become a better teacher, but it will help you and the students relate to eachother.

no recess for children?
It has been recently a new fad to eliminated recess in elementary schools. A school in Arkansas has recently jumped on this band waggen. Eliminating recess is in hopes that the more time students spend in the classroom, then the higher grades will be. Is this truly a good idea though? Children need a set aside time for a break. It is not healthy to be cooped up in a classroom all day long. Also, the teacher deserves 15 minutes a day to regroup. If adults get breaks at their jobs, isn't it only fair so do students?
