no recess for children?

It has been recently a new fad to eliminated recess in elementary schools. A school in Arkansas has recently jumped on this band waggen. Eliminating recess is in hopes that the more time students spend in the classroom, then the higher grades will be. Is this truly a good idea though? Children need a set aside time for a break. It is not healthy to be cooped up in a classroom all day long. Also, the teacher deserves 15 minutes a day to regroup. If adults get breaks at their jobs, isn't it only fair so do students?

  1. I heard some states are looking at getting rid of or redusing recess which is in my opinion a bad idea. Children need time to stretch, relax, and be social with their peers. Recess is a very important aspect of school for young children. They need to be physically active which will help reduce behavior problems in the classroom because the students will not be restless. I think schools should keep recess and physical education as part of the curriculum.

  2. I also think it is a bad idea to eliminate recess. Recess allows children to get exercise, which is something that American children especially need. It also reduces the need for classroom management. If teachers give time for their students to release their energy during recess they will be less likely to talk and interrupt during class time.

  3. This is strange! I haven't heard anything about this. I think it is a terrible idea to elimate recess because it is such a great outlet for children. Perhaps you could provide a news article or something extra to supplement your opinion.
